Stylized illustration of a home office

You ever have one of those days that wrings you out and leaves you to wake up a month later finally feeling more like yourself again? I'm starting to wake up. The days of heat and wildfire smoke hanging thick in the air, my throat scratching, cough lingering in my chest, gave way this past week to cool temperatures, chilly rain, and a rising tide of tiny frogs celebrating the change in weather. It helps.

It was a day at the end of September that sent me down a spiral of grief and depression. I had to put my dog down and it tore me up. I struggled to focus on anything in the days prior and after I found it easier to slip into dark spaces. My self-critical doubts rose up in force. I'm fortunate in having the support I needed to find my way back out of that low point.

Positive News

I found joy and light even in the dark. I finished the office illustration I shared in my last email.

I'm happy with the result of this exercise. I created a delightful space. I'd like to play around with more of these sorts of illustrations. Right now, however, I've moved on to a new cover illustration for my first contact science fiction story Shermmies' Planet. I'm recording the process and plan to release a playlist of videos to launch my YouTube channel! I'm having fun with the project. Assuming it continues to go well, I plan to do other titles too. I'll send out an announcement when it's all live. I'm not setting a deadline—it'll get done when it gets done.

Witches, Wands, and Wanderers Bundle

I'm thrilled to be part of this StoryBundle curated by Leah R. Cutter. It includes twelve titles by wonderful writers—less than 4 days remain to get this bundle. Over 300 bundles sold so far! I'd love to see if we can get it over 500!

Here's how it works:

•     Support awesome authors by paying however much you think their work is worth. You decide how much of your purchase goes to the author and how much goes to help keep StoryBundle running.

•     Pay at least $20 to unlock eight bonus books, for a total of twelve, including three StoryBundle exclusives!

•     Read all our books on just about any tablet, ereader, laptop, or even your smartphone. Zero DRM on any of our books. None. Read on whatever device you want with easy delivery.

•     Support nonprofits. You can also give a portion of the proceeds from each bundle to charity, and support Doctors Without Borders.

Get yourself a treat this Halloween and pick up the StoryBundle. It's a terrific opportunity to discover authors, support a good cause, and unlock magical stories.

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed this latest issue of READINARY. I’ll be back soon with more stories, recommended books, and other thoughts.

I'm so, so grateful to have the support of so many wonderful readers. You're the bag bursting with delicious treats that keeps this newsletter going.

Best wishes, always—Ryan
